FIRST THE IDEA
The Dutchess Gin
Some ideas take a while to become real. We thought about it. Then we decided to actually do it.
For a while now, the idea has been sitting somewhere in the back of our minds: what if we made our own gin?
Not another gin chosen from a catalogue. Or a bottle with our name simply printed on the label. We wanted to create something that genuinely belongs to The Dutchess, something we could pour into a glass and say, yes, this one is ours.
So we started experimenting.
Mixed different Botanicals to create Balance and finding the perfect Flavour. The things that work beautifully together, and the things that sounded brilliant until they absolutely didn't.
And somewhere between the experiments and the endless “what if we tried this?”, the idea stopped being a fantasy.
The recipe is finally done.
We're now talking to distillers about bringing it to life, while the bottle is taking shape alongside it.
And if everything goes according to plan, The Dutchess Gin will be ready before the end of this year.
But perhaps this particular gin started much earlier...

BEFORE THERE WAS A GIN, THERE WAS A STORY
THE LEGEND OF THE DUTCHESS
Long before The Dutchess had a bar, a bottle or even a name, there was Marie.
A young woman growing up in Rotterdam, learning from her aunt about the plants growing around her, herbs, roots, leaves and all the little things that could be gathered, prepared and put to use.
She kept notes and she experimented. And, without knowing it, she was building a knowledge of ingredients that would stay with her long after she left Holland.
That story became The Legend of the Dutchess.
A story of a young woman, her journey, the people she met, the love she found and the knowledge she carried with her.
And somewhere within that story are old recipes, forgotten ingredients and the beginnings of a connection that brings us right back to what we are doing today.
The story is already written. Now, a new chapter is being distilled.
The book is available in English and Spanish.
